Idiosyncrasies of the English Language

Living among people who are learning English - namely my children, you notice some of the idiosyncrasies of the language. One of the funny things Tessa will do is assume things that have opposites should have appropriately opposite names. For instance, Tessa will call muted pink cold pink, the opposite of hot pink. The opposite of up-side-down is naturally up-side-up. And of course, the washing machine, being the opposite of the dryer, is the wetter.
